Delhi red alert: After heavy rain, Yamuna river flows near danger mark; waterlogging and traffic snarls reported

The Yamuna river in New Delhi was reportedly flowing near the danger mark with water level reaching up to 205 metres near the Old Yamuna bridge, according to DD News.

Waterlogging and traffic disruptions were reported in some areas. Moderate to heavy rainfall is likely to continue for the rest of the day. A radar animation prepared by IMD showed moderate to intense convective clouds during last few hours over Delhi, Haryana and other nearby regions indicating moderate to heavy rainfall over the region.

IMD said Delhi recorded 13 mm rain in the last 24 hours ending 8.30 am on Tuesday. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) said the average AQI in Delhi has improved and was recorded at 56, which comes under 'Satisfactory' category.

On Tuesday afternoon, the weatherman sounded a red alert for South Delhi, West Delhi, Northwest Delhi, Southwest Delhi and New Delhi districts. Haryana's Gurugram was also put under red alert.

An orange alert was issued for Southeast, East and North Delhi while East Delhi, Uttar Pradesh's Noida and Ghaziabad were put under yellow alert. The alerts lasted till 4.45 pm on Tuesday.

Air India, Spicejet and Indigo have released travel advisories for passengers as flight operations could be affected and asked passengers to check their flight status on the website before heading to the airport.

In Dwaraka, two people sustained minor injuries on Tuesday after the roof of a four-story building collapsed in Mohan Garden. On Sunday evening, a mechanic, 40, died after he came in contact with a live electric pole in Kirti Nagar, West Delhi,

Alipur, Bawana, Civil Lines, ITO, Lajpat Nagar, Narela and Red Fort are predicted to witness heavy rains and gusty winds on Saturday and Sunday.
