The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reportedly stated that a low-pressure area is likely to form off the Odisha-Bengal coasts in the Bay of Bengal on Monday, August 25. As a result, rain is possible in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana next week.
The IMD was quoted by Telugu media as saying that the formation of this low-pressure area could lead to light to moderate rainfall in isolated areas of the Kakinada, Konaseema, East Godavari, and West Godavari districts. Media reports also added that the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) has forecast the possibility of light rain in some other districts as well.
According to a report from Prajasakti, the IMD predicts heavy rain in the Srikakulam, Parvathipuram Manyam, Vizianagaram, and Visakhapatnam districts on Tuesday and Wednesday. Additionally, there's a possibility of light to moderate rain in some parts of the state over the next three days.
In Telangana, there's a chance of thundershowers and lightning in the Adilabad, Asifabad, Mancherial, Bhupalpalli, Mulugu, and Kothagudem districts on Saturday, with yellow warnings issued for these areas. The report also mentioned that strong surface winds are likely to affect several districts in the coming days.
The weekly forecast had previously mentioned that thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning and strong winds with a speed of 30-40 kmph, are likely at isolated places in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam. The IMD's Amaravati Met Centre also stated that light to moderate rain should be expected in Rayalaseema and isolated places in South Andhra.
Meanwhile, the water level of the Godavari River has reached 13.3 feet at Dhavaleswaram. Approximately 12,600 cusecs of water are being released into the delta canals, and 12.13 lakh cusecs are being released into the sea. District Collector P. Prashanthi has advised people to remain alert even though the floodwaters have receded.
