In the wake of allegations of misbehaviour, harassment and intimidation against Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, the state BJP has come out with a strong warning.
State BJP president Rajeev Chandrasekhar demanded that Mamkootathil resign as MLA and warned that if he refuses to step down, the saffron party will do what is necessary.
Rahul Mamkootathil should resign as MLA; that’s what morality and correctness demand. It is the right of the people of Palakkad to have a clean and non-exploitative MLA.

The drama that is playing out in Congress now is not surprising, as exploitation, corruption, dynasty… pic.twitter.com/bkyf5udEdh
Claiming that such behaviours are in the "DNA of the Congress", Chandrasekhar said Palakkad needs an MLA who does not exploit and manipulate people.
The sentiment was also echoed by the ruling LDF, with CPI(M) state secretary M.V. Govindan saying Mamkootathil has no other options other than resignation. There have been several allegations against the Congress leader, and the entire state is demanding his resignation, Govindan said.
The CPI(M) leader claimed that the allegations against the Congress MLA have been substantiated with evidence and the state government will initiate action based on this.
Govindan said even a section of Congress leaders is demanding the resignation of Mamkootathil.
Opposition Leader V.D. Satheesan had said the party was examining the issue "very seriously" and would act if required. "Within 24 hours of the allegation, Mamkootathil resigned from his post (of Youth Congress president). There is a procedure, and the party will examine the matter thoroughly," Satheesan said.
Mamkootathil has, however, ruled out the possibility of his resignation as Palakkad MLA.
Congress MP Shafi Parambil, who is also seen as a mentor of Mamkootathil, defended him, saying "Rahul has not run away from the issue. The remark describing him as 'absconding' is wrong. There is no legal complaint or FIR against him."
Meanwhile, Kerala cyber police registered a case following a complaint filed by writer Honey Bhaskaran, who alleged that she was insulted on social media platforms after raising accusations against Mamkootathil.
