The India Meteorological Department's (IMD) Hyderabad Met Centre has issued a 'WATCH' for Rajendra Nagar, Shamirpet, Medchal, Shamshabad, Hayathnagar, Patancheru, and Hyderabad until 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday after heavy rains were predicted to lash Telangana for two days. A red alert has been issued for the entire state, as the downpour is expected to continue for five more days. A low-pressure area has formed in the west-central Bay of Bengal, causing heavy rains in the state for four days, the weather department said.
Here are five of the latest rain updates from Telangana and Hyderabad that residents need to know:
- On Wednesday evening, scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to hit the districts of Adilabad, Komaram Bheem, Nirmal, Mancherial, Mahabubabad, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Nalgonda, Suryapet, and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri. Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in some places in Adilabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Kamareddy, Karimnagar, Mahabubabad, Mancherial, Narayanpet, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Peddapalli, Rajanna Sircilla, and Warangal.
- The IMD forecast also warns of thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds blowing at a speed of 40-50 km/h in most parts of Telangana. On Thursday, August 14, the low-pressure system over Telangana will continue to cause very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in the districts of Medak, Sangareddy, and Vikarabad.
- According to the IMD, the people of Sangareddy, Vikarabad, Medak, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Khammam, Bhadradri, Bhupalpally, and Mulugu districts should take the red alert seriously. There is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rains in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts, [suspicious link removed] quoted the Director of the Hyderabad Met Centre as saying.
- The intensity of the rain will be high in the northern districts of Telangana. Even if the red alert is lifted, an orange alert will remain in place for Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits.
- Heavy to very heavy rains are also likely in Adilabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Jangaon, Kamareddy, Mahabubabad, Nagarkurnool, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Peddapalli, Rajanna Sircilla, Siddipet, and Warangal districts on Thursday.
