The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has once again issued a rain alert for Andhra Pradesh, according to media reports. Krishna, Eluru, Palnadu, Nandyal, Prakasam, Guntur, Bapatla, NTR District, and West Godavari were listed among the districts expected to receive "Heavy to Very Heavy rainfall" and "Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning" on Wednesday, August 13, in the forecast by the IMD's Amaravati Meteorological Centre. People were advised to remain indoors if possible and to be vigilant against flooding and landslides.

Coastal and Rayalaseema regions, including Guntur, Nellore, and Kadapa, could be lashed by heavy showers, as heavy rainfall is expected to persist over August 13 and 14. Officials have warned residents of coastal districts that they should brace for heavy to very heavy rains, local media reports said. Fishermen have been warned not to venture into the sea, as winds are likely to blow at a speed of 40-50 km per hour in many districts. A depression in the Bay of Bengal is likely to turn into a low-pressure area in the next 48 hours, the IMD reportedly said on Wednesday morning. Thus, it is expected that many parts of the state may get heavy to very heavy rains in the next three days.

The sea is expected to remain rough until Saturday, and heavy rains are also expected in Alluri Seetharama Raju, East Godavari, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema, Nellore, Krishna, Kurnool, and Kadapa districts today, apart from those mentioned in the IMD forecast, Telugu Samayam said in a report. Thunderstorms and lightning are likely to occur at some places in Srikakulam, Parvathipuram, Vizianagaram, Anakapalle, West Godavari, Eluru, Prakasam, and Kadapa districts, the report quoted the MD of the AP Disaster Management Agency as saying.

Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh Weatherman claimed that "Extremely Heavy rainfall" lashed central parts of the state, with many areas in and around Vijayawada getting severe rains on Tuesday night that continued for around six hours. "Highest recorded in Ponnur, Guntur district with 204 mm, followed by Maddipadu, Prakasam 203 mm. Vijayawada city East records 90 mm and #Guntur city records 160 mm which is nearly entire August month's average rainfall in one night. Today also severe rains are expected from tonight. A detailed update will be released soon," he said on X.
