An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district on Sunday morning, the Army said.

The White Corps said in a post on X that the troops conducting an intelligence-based operation established contact with terrorists in the Dul area.

"Indian Army troops while carrying out an intelligence based operation have established contact with terrorists in general area of Dul in Kishtwar in early hours of 10 Aug 2025. Gunfire exchanged. Operation under progress," the post said.

According to reports, the operation is still underway.

The encounter comes a day after two soldiers were killed in a gunfight with terrorists in Kulgam district, where the ‘Operation Akhal’ continued on the ninth day on Saturday.

The martyred soldiers were identified as Lance Naik Pritpal Singh and Sepoy Harminder Singh.

Two terrorists have been killed so far in the operation—one of the longest in the Valley in recent years—being carried out jointly by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, CRPF and the Special Operations Group (SOG) in a forest at Akhal in the south Kashmir district.

Eleven security personnel have been injured since the beginning of the operation on August 1. Security forces have pressed drones and helicopters into service to track the terrorists down in the forest area.
