One person died and another sustained grievous injuries after a speeding SUV hit them in New Delhi’s Chanakyapuri on Sunday.
The incident occurred on 11 Murti Road—around two kilometres from the Rashtrapati Bhavan—in the early hours, and the victim’s body lay on the ground for hours before police arrived, reported NDTV.
Police have detained the 26-year-old driver of the white Thar car while the injured person has been admitted to a hospital.

According to reports, the vehicle was registered in the name of one Ankit Adnani, a resident of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh. He gave his car to his friend Ashish, a resident of Shakarpur.
Ashish told police that he dozed off and lost control of the vehicle. A video shared by ANI on X showed that the left front tyre of the vehicle almost detached due to the impact of the accident.

Police have recovered a liquor bottle inside the vehicle. They are also conducting a medical examination of the driver to determine if he was driving under the influence of alcohol.
Ashish’s father, Ramesh, told the Indian Express that his son went out on Saturday evening with some friends after celebrating Raksha Bandhan, and the Thar vehicle belonged to one of his son’s friends.
