Authorities have issued warnings to low-lying areas alongside the Yamuna River in Haryana and Uttarakhand as the water levels rise due to the heavy rains.
In Delhi, the water level of the Yamuna River has neared the warning level. The level stood at 204.14 metres, which is close to the warning level, which is 204.5 metres. If the water levels continue to rise, it could lead to a flood like situaton in the city within the next 24-46 hours, officials said.
The irrigation and the Flood Control department officials continue to monitor the situation to take measures when required. Authorities have also asked officials to stay careful and avoid going near river banks.
The continuous rainfall, coupled with the water released from the Hathnikund Barrage in Haryana, is triggering the water levels to rise.
In several districts of Uttarakhand, the Yamuna, Saryu, Ken, and Chambal rivers have crossed the danger mark.
In Uttar Pradesh's Pryagraj, a flood-like situation has occurred in the city. Water has entered many residential areas, and people living in low-lying areas are being rescued and relocated. SDRF teams have been carrying out rescue operations in Prayagraj, ANI reported.
About 7 districts in Uttarakhand have been alerted for heavy rains. There is an orange alert for heavy rains in Doon and Bageshwar districts,
The last time Delhi saw the worst flood levels was in July 2023 at 208.66 metres, according to an NDTV report. Low-lying areas of the capital, like Yamuna Bazaar, Rajghat, and Civil Lines, were flooded.
