Three people were arrested on Saturday in connection with the July 28 murder of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan Krishan Kumar at his residence in Gohana, situated in Haryana's Sonipat.

The shooting followed the officer's alleged involvement in a brawl with a few men from his village during the Kanwar Yatra in Haridwar.

A conspiracy to kill Kumar was allegedly hatched before he could leave for the pilgrimage to Haridwar. Besides Krishan, the accused had planned to kill another man named Anand (alias Pahiya), police told India Today TV.

The accused were identified (with help from Kumar's family) as Ajay, Anand and Nishant. The police are now probing whether the three accused were part of a wider conspiracy.

The officer, who had been posted in Chattisgarh had returned home on leave about a month ago, after which he had gone to Haridwar for the Kanwar Yatra.

“During that visit, he had a heated argument and a brawl with a few men from his village. It was late Sunday night that a few men from the village called Krishan out of his home at about 1 am Monday. The moment he stepped out of his home, he was shot at,” said Shrikant, Additional Commissioner of Police, Gohana, as per an Indian Express report.

“Hearing the gunshots, Krishan’s family members rushed towards him, where he was found lying on the ground in a pool of blood. He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival,” Shrikant added.

The CRPF jawan is survived by his wife and two sons.
