Patna hospital shooting: Who was Chandan Mishra? Shooter arrested, 4 others identified

After five shooters killed murder convict Chandan Mishra at a Patna hospital on Thursday morning, police have arrested one of the accused.

The accused was identified as Tausif, who reportedly belonged to a rival gang. Police are hunting for the remaining suspects as raid continue across the state.

A chilling CCTV video from the Paras HMRI hospital in Patna showed five men toting pistols walking down the hospital lobby before they disappear into a room.

Who was Chandan Mishra?

Hailing from Buxar district of Bihar, Chandan was sentenced to death for murdering trader Rajendra Kesari in 2011. The death penalty was later commuted to life imprisonment in 2020, following a high court order.

Chandan was part of a the infamous Chandan-Sheru gang in Buxar. Chandan and Sheru reportedly had a fallout but it is not clear if the latter is behind the shooting. Sheru is currently lodged at prison in West Bengal where he is serving life imprisonment. He had more than 20 criminal case against him, including murder and burglary.

He had served his sentence in Buxar and Bhagalpur before being shifted to Beur Jail. He was given a 15-day parole for treatment and hence brought to Paras Hospital in Patna.

The rival gangsters shot him to death a day before his parole was set to expire on July 18. Police are probing how the armed shooters entered the hospital despite heavy security. They are also investigating if the shooters received help from the hospital security staff.
