The Air India flight that crashed minutes after taking off from Ahmedabad International Airport fell on the hostel building of BJ Medical College in the city.
At least five people have reportedly died, and 30 others have been injured at the hostel, NDTV said in its report. The pictures doing the rounds on social media showed food plates lying on the tables in the hostel canteen, and part of the aircraft stuck inside the hostel building.
"As per preliminary information, a London-bound Air India flight has crashed at the doctors' hostel. Within 2-3 minutes, police and other agencies reached the spot. Almost 70-80 % of the area has been cleared. All agencies are working here,” said a senior police officer, reported ANI.

The AI171 flight with 232 passengers and 10 crew on board was going to London when it went down into a residential area in Meghani Nagar area in the city around 2 pm.
The passengers included 169 Indians, 53 British, and one Canadian national on-board.
Air India Flight AI171 reportedly crashed into the hostel part of the B.J. Medical College (BJMC), a well-known medical college in Ahmedabad.

Visuals from the area showed mangled metal of the wreckage, snarls of tangled wire and smoke rising from the charred remnants.
This is the second air disaster in Gujarat's principal city after an Indian Airlines plane crashed in its final approach to the Ahmedabad airport, killing 130 people, on October 19, 1998.
