Lives are feared lost after a London-bound Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner (Flight AI 171) crashed shortly after takeoff near Ahmedabad Airport on Thursday. According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), there were 232 passengers and 10 crew members on board the Air India plane, which crashed into a residential area near the airport.
According to Air India, the Boeing 787-8 aircraft from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick was carrying 242 passengers and crew members. Of these, 169 were Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian national.
The British High Commission in India said it is working with local authorities to urgently establish the facts and provide support.
