Internet services have been suspended in five districts of Manipur as fresh violence broke out on Saturday in the state following reports of the arrest of a leader of Meitei outfit Arambai Tenggol. Prohibitory orders have been imposed for five days and citizens are restricted from gathering in public places.
Manipur Home Secretary Ashok Kumar on Saturday issued orders for suspending internet in five valley districts following reports of fresh violence across the state. "...with a view to maintaining public order, the State Government is satisfied that it is necessary to suspend telecommunication services in the State of Manipur," the order read.
As per the order, all digital communication services including SMS, dongle services, internet lease lines, broadband services, Virtual Private Network (VPN) services, lease lines and other modes of internet including Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) services have been suspended in Bishnupur, Imphal East, Imphal West, Kakching and Thoubal districts.
Prohibitory orders have been imposed in Bishnupur considering the prevailing violent situation. "Due to the developing law and order situation in the district, the above mentioned curfew relaxation order stands cancelled with immediate effect i.e. from 11pm of 7th June, 2025. Total curfew is imposed w.e.f from 11pm of 7th June, 2025 until further
orders," Pooja Elangbam, District magistrate of Bishnupur ordered on Saturday.

Widespread protests were reported in Imphal East and Imphal West districts on Saturday night following reports of a leader of Meitei outfit Arambai Tenggol. The protests turned violent, and protesters torched tyres and old furniture in the middle of the road in Kwakeithel and Uripok areas, demanding the release of the leader, PTI reported. The protesters allegedly stormed a police outpost in Kwakeithel demanding the release of members of the outfit.
"Additional security forces were deployed in areas where fresh violence was reported on Saturday. Protesters reportedly clashed with security forces at many places. At least three people, including two journalists, sustained injuries in the clashes.
