Congress leader Rahul Gandhi stepped up his attack on the government over its decision to agree to a ceasefire with Pakistan, saying Prime Minister Narendra Modi surrendered after a call from US President Donald Trump.
Rahul reiterated his allegation even as the government had ruled out any US intervention and asserted that the decision on ceasefire was taken bilaterally after Pakistan’s DGMO dialed his Indian counterpart.
"A call came from Trump and Narendra ji immediately surrendered - history is a witness, this is the character of BJP-RSS, they always bow down," the Rae Bareli MP said while addressing a Congress convention in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal.

Rahul, who is the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, mentioned the 1971 war and said then prime minister Indira Gandhi didn’t budge despite the US sending its Seventh Fleet.
"Congress's Babbar Sher and lionesses fight with superpowers, they never bowed down," he said, adding that India split Pakistan in 1971 despite America's threat.
Targeting the BJP and the RSS, Rahul mocked that they have been habituated to writing "surrender letters" since Independence.
"This is the difference. This is their character. All of them are like this. They have a habit of writing surrender letters since the time of independence. Congress never surrenders. Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and (Vallabhbhai) Patel never surrendered, they fought against superpowers,” said the Congress leader.
‘His heart beats for Pakistan’
Rahul’s remarks on Modi drew sharp reaction from the BJP which accused the Congress leader of making “indecent” remarks against the prime minister.
"Rahul Gandhi's words reflect his values. He makes such indecent remarks against the country's Prime Minister. But this is what can be expected from Rahul Gandhi, whose heart beats for Pakistan. Because when he offers floral tributes to the statue of his grandmother (Indira Gandhi), he does not even remove his shoes,” said BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari.
The BJP leader stated that under the leadership of Modi, India has given a befitting reply to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism.
“Even Salman Khurshid to Shashi Tharoor, every Congress leader is talking about this, and Pakistan itself is giving evidence of this. The people of the country see this uncivilised Rahul Gandhi as an agent of Pakistan,” he said.
