The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted isolated extremely heavy rainfall in Assam and Meghalaya on Sunday. Widespread rainfall has been predicted in northeast India during the next week.
As per a recent bulletin issued by the IMD, on June1, very heavy rainfall is likely over Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Fairly widespread rainfall has been predicted over Kerala, Mahe and Karnataka during the weekend. Isolated heavy rainfall likely over Coastal Karnataka during May 31-June 2, Kerala and Mahe on May 31 and June 1, IMD said in a bulletin.
The IMD has issued red alert for Assam and has predicted extremely heavy rainfall for the next two to three days. Three women got killed in Guwahati as heavy rain lashed western and southern parts of the state. The deceased, all women, were killed in a landslide in Bonda area on the outskirts of the city on Friday evening, PTI reported. The region weather department has issued red alert for Chirang, Baksa, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Bajali, Tamulpur, Darrang and Udalguri districts.

Meanwhile, an orange alert has been issued for four districts in Kerala and yellow alert for 10 districts. Orange alert has been issued for Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Kannur and Kasargod districts. Very heavy rainfall ranging between 11cm and 20cm has been predicted in the four districts. The incessant rains have affected train operations in Kerala.
