The government has called an all-party meeting on Thursday to review the security situation following the horrific terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will chair the meeting.

According to reports, both Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah are in touch with leaders of different parties.

Several parties, including Congress, had demanded that the government convene a meeting of all parties over the issue. Though these parties have unanimously condemned the attack, they are likely to raise the issue of the alleged security lapse that led to the attack at tomorrow’s meeting.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and former party chief Rahul Gandhi have spoken with Shah, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and senior party leaders from the union territory to get an update on the attack.

Kharge had urged the central government to talk to all the political parties to ensure security in Jammu and Kashmir. "The perpetrators of this heinous terror attack must not go unpunished. The innocent victims must get justice," he said in a post on X.

On Tuesday, the Congress demanded the government take accountability for the deadly terror attack instead of "making hollow claims" about the situation being normal in Jammu and Kashmir.

As many as 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed as terrorists sprayed bullets on them from a close range at a prime location near Pahalgam on Tuesday afternoon.

Those killed included two foreign nationals and a Navy officer.
