Union Home Minister Amit Shah has advanced his visit to Jammu and Kashmir by one day. He will now arrive in Jammu on the afternoon of April 6, instead of the earlier plan to reach on April 7.

As per reports, on April 6, Shah will meet all BJP MLAs and senior party leaders. He will also chair two important meetings to review the security situation in the region. The meeting with party leaders will take place on Ram Navami. Dr Jitendra Singh, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, is also expected to attend.

During the visit, the Home Minister will virtually inaugurate and lay foundation stones for several major development projects in the Union Territory.

He is likely to take feedback from BJP MLAs on the ongoing Assembly Budget Session, which will resume on April 7 after a 12-day break. The session is expected to end on April 9. The performance of BJP members during the first session of the new government will also be reviewed.

In the 2024 Assembly elections, the BJP had won all 29 seats in the Jammu region. However, the number dropped to 28 after the death of senior leader Devender Singh Rana, who represented Nagrota. By-elections for Nagrota and Budgam—the latter vacated by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who retained Ganderbal—are yet to be held.

Although there are no major elections planned at the moment, Shah is expected to discuss the current political situation with BJP leaders. Upcoming Panchayat and Municipal elections, which are still pending, may also be discussed.

Shah will remain in Jammu until the afternoon of April 7 and will then travel to Srinagar. He is expected to return to New Delhi on April 8.

Reports suggest that the Home Minister will hold two separate high-level security meetings. One of them will be a Unified Headquarters meeting, attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, top officials from the Home Ministry, the Army, paramilitary forces, Jammu and Kashmir Police, intelligence agencies, and senior members of the civil administration.
