A BJP legislator from Uttar Pradesh has alleged that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was being taken advantage of by his officers and that they were enmeshed in corruption.
Nand Kishor Gurjar, who represents the Loni (Ghaziabad) constituency, was in the news recently when he claimed that the state’s police were out to kill him.
At the Lucknow Press Club on Tuesday, Gurjar said that a campaign was being run by the state’s administration and police to remove him. "This is wrong and a great injustice towards the people of the state," he said, adding that corrupt officers were taking advantage of the situation.
In another complaint, he alleged that the officers did not listen to MLAs, and instead misbehaved with them, while also creating false media narratives. This included painting MLAs as antagonistic to the CM.
"The CM himself has, on more than one occasion, directed all officers to always take calls and listen to the concerns of elected representatives," he said.
Gurjar said that he had been painted as an opponent of the CM only because he made statements of public interest. The public was devastated and suffering because of the bureaucracy and police’s attitude, he added.
Over a week ago, Gurjar had a scuffle with the Ghaziabad police when the force tried to stop a Ram Katha procession. The MLA said prior permission had been granted for the procession but the police denied it and said they had to step in to maintain order when hundreds of Gurjar’s supporters convened.
Gurjar had then addressed the public and the media in a torn kurta—which he claimed was the result of the police scuffle, and made serious charges against the district and state police, going as far as challenging them to kill him.
Gurjar said that the lack of action on the attack on him was a reflection of the police and administrative attitude towards MLAs. He said that he had never spoken, either in UP or in Delhi against the CM and if need be, he would be willing to submit to a narco test to prove his innocence.
He also said that MLAs of the entire state were suffering. They were unable to do anything about the injustice and atrocities that the public was suffering from. When MLAs tried to intervene they were linked to the supposed differences between the UP and Delhi durbars. This led to the perception that many MLAs were opposing the government every day, said Gujar.
