The central government on Monday notified a 24 per cent increase in the salary of the members of parliament, effective from April 1. With this move, the salary of MPs will rise from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.24 lakh.
As per the notification issued by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, the daily allowances of the sitting MPs have been hiked from Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,500 per month.
The monthly pension of former MPs has been increased from Rs 25,000 to Rs 31,000. The Additional pension for each year of service beyond five years has been increased from Rs 2,000 per month to Rs 2,500.
This revision has been made under the powers granted by the Salary, Allowances, and Pension of Members of Parliament Act, 1954, the notification said.

The central government notification came three days after the Karnataka Assembly passed bills approving a 100 per cent salary hike for the Chief Minister, Ministers, and all legislators, which will cost the exchequer Rs 62 crore annually.
The chief minister's monthly salary will double from Rs 75,000 to Rs 1.5 lakh, while ministers' salaries will increase by 108 per cent from Rs 60,000 to Rs 1.25 lakh.
The monthly salaries of MLAs and MLCs will be raised from Rs 40,000 to Rs 80,000, while their pensions will increase from Rs 50,000 to Rs 75,000.
The monthly salary of the Speaker and Legislative Council Chairperson will be revised from Rs 75,000 to Rs 1.25 lakh.
