All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIDMK), the principal opposition party in Tamil Nadu, has taken a jibe at the meeting convened Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, saying it was a 'drama' enacted by the government to divert public attention from issues including rampant corruption and law and order.

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami said people of Tamil Nadu are agitated over a number of issues including hike in property tax, water tax and power tariff.

"Law and order has collapsed, there is skyrocketing inflation, power tariff has been hiked, property tax and water tax have been increased while property guideline value has been revised, affecting people severely. To hide these big issues that have happened over the four years since the DMK came to power, the CM has enacted this drama," he said.

Palaniswami, the Leader of opposition, contented that parliamentary delimitation should be discussed in the parliament.

Earlier, AIADMK spokesperson Kovai Sathyan said the DMK and the BJP were staging a drama for political mileage ahead of 2026 elections.

"Yesterday's meeting was nothing but a big drama. The letter which CM Stalin wrote to them (chief ministers of various states) extending invitations stated that they are not against delimitation whereas in Tamil Nadu DMK's propaganda is delimitation is detrimental to the state,” he said.

Sathyan reiterated the party’s stand that the proportion of Tamil Nadu MPs, which at present is 7.18 per cent, should not change.

"So it clearly leaves an impression to everyone in Tamil Nadu that the DMK is desperate to stick on to a narrative of delimitation which they want to carry forward to the 2026 assembly elections by hiding all their incompetencies and failures of this government which is stinking deep in corruption," he claimed.

“The BJP and DMK are playing politics to their own benefit to the political gallery of their own followers," he added.

The first Joint Action Committee meeting demanding fair delimitation was held in Chennai on Saturday. The meeting was attended by three chief ministers, a deputy CM and leaders of 14 parties including the BRS and BJD from six states.
