Chaurasiya said the car dashed against a vehicle and was unaware of other vehicles on the road. Chaurasiya said he was trying to avoid a pothole on the road. “We were going ahead of the scooty, we were turning right and there was a pothole on the road. There was a scooty and a car while we were turning right... The car slightly touched the other vehicle and suddenly the airbags opened. Our vision was hampered and the car went out of control,” Chaurasiya told ANI.
Chaurasiya was along with his friend Mit Chauhan when the incident happened and the car reportedly belongs to Chauhan. The incident happened near the busy Muktanand crossroads in the Karelibaug area around 12.30am on Friday. Chaurasiya was allegedly drunk and was driving the car in a rash manner. As per CCTV footage collected from the site, speeding car is seen hitting two scooters, knocking down the riders and dragging them along before coming to a halt. In the video captured by eyewitnesses, Chaurasiya is seen screaming “Another round?”

However, Chaurasiya denied charges that he was drunk or he was driving in a rash manner. “We were going at 50 km/hour. I did not do any party; I went for Holika Dahan and was not drunk,” ANI reported. Chaurasiya said he wishes to meet the families of the victims. A probe by Gujarat police is underway in the case.
