Ahead of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's two-day visit to Gujarat from Friday to discuss preparations for the upcoming assembly elections, Congress leaders say the party has already prepared an assessment report based on which he will take decisions to empower people who have been active on ground.
Gujarat Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi said based on the review report prepared by the party, the organisational transformation will begin. "The belgavi samvilan (grouping) chalked out a plan to revive the organisation of the Congress from block level. I believe Gujarat has been given first preference where from these guidelines will be implemented,” he said.
He noted that the roadmap for the state will be finalised after discussion with the party high command. "Rahul Gandhi ji has a clear message on how we need to work on the ground and involve people who will work with us."
Notably, Congress has only 12 MLAs in the 182-member assembly, no representation in the Zila Panchayat, and no presence in the Mahanagar Palika. They have only one Nagar Palika in their kitty. The challenge before them seems enormous, and the road ahead tough. Therefore, there is a strong view within the party that its cadres must work tirelessly on multiple fronts—strengthening its grassroots network, rebuilding public trust, and mobilizing strong leadership—to create a formidable force that can effectively counter the BJP.
Earlier, Congress general secretary (organisation) K.C. Venugopal reviewed the preparations for the upcoming All India Congress Committee (AICC) meeting, set to take place in Ahmedabad on April 8and 9.
As part of his visit, Venugopal also paid tribute to India's first Union home minister at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Memorial in Ahmedabad. Reflecting on Patel’s legacy, he wrote on X, "As I reviewed preparations for our AICC Meeting on April 8-9, I also had the honor of visiting the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Memorial in Ahmedabad. Paid homage to Sardar Patel, a great freedom fighter and stalwart Congressman, who remains a guiding light for us all."
