The Left-leaning Students’ Federation of India (SFI) swept the Ambedkar University Delhi Students’ Council (AUDSC) elections on Wednesday, bagging 24 of the 45 total seats. The All India Students Federation (AISA), another Left organisation, came a distant second with six seats while RSS-affiliated ABVP only got three.

Npw, it will play a key role in electing the five-member central coordination committee (CCC), the highest decision-making body of the council.

On Karampura campus, the SFI won 5 seats, AISA 2, ABVP 1, and Independents 4. The Lodhi Road campus saw the SFI secure 1 seat, with Independents winning the other 2, while the ABVP and AISA failed to open their accounts.

On the Qutub Institutional Area campus, the SFI won both seats, while the ABVP and AISA drew a blank.

Ahead of the polls, SFI had emerged as the single largest organisation in the varsity by winning 13 seats unopposed across the four campuses -- Kashmere Gate, Karampura, Lodhi Road, and Qutub Institutional Area. Interestingly, Independent candidates won seats in all campuses but Qutub which stood behind SFI. Students affiliated with none of the political groups emerged victorious in 12 seats, the results showed.

It is not the first time that the CPI(M)-linked SFI managed to win the union at Ambedkar University. The AUDSC polls were held in 2018 and 2019, and the SFI won both times.

"SFI wins in resounding terms. The students of AUD have spoken with one voice, SFI is their choice. As a pro-student alternative SFI has always raised the concerns of common students, be it canteen prices or functional library spaces. With this victory we only strengthen our struggle!" the victorious student body claimed via social media.

AISA, meanwhile, in a statement accused the administration of introducing last-minute rule changes, mass cancellation of candidatures, and lack of transparency.

It specifically pointed out the scrapping of the MPhil constituency and procedural lapses in the formation of the election committee.

According to AUD's election rules, programme representatives are directly elected in each academic programme. These representatives form the electoral college, which elects the office-bearers of the student council.

The elected councillors will soon convene on the Kashmere Gate and Karampura campuses to elect their respective central student councils.
