As many as 12 Union and Telangana government agencies are working in full swing to rescue the eight workers trapped inside the partially collapsed Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel for 10 days. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Sunday said rescue forces are likely to make a breakthrough within three days.

As many as 12 agencies including the armed forces, geology and tunnel experts are working on the site as part of the rescue operation. Over 700 personnel from various agencies are involved in the rescue operation.
V.V.N. Prasanna Kumar, NDRF Commandant told ANI, “Operation is going on in full swing. At present, approximately 12 agencies are working round the clock to find the victims.” Kumar added governments are putting their best efforts for the rescue of trapped workers. He added experts are yet to locate the position of workers trapped inside the tunnel since February 22.

The Commandant said the 1,500-ton Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) which got damaged in the collapse was hindering the rescue operations.

On Sunday, Chief Minister Reddy visited the tunnel site and reviewed rescue operations. Reddy interacted with personnel indulged in the operation and said the conveyor belt which got damaged in the collapse would be repaired by Monday. “They (rescue personnel) are not able to come to a full understanding on where the humans and the machinery got stuck. They have a preliminary estimation but not fully," Reddy had said.
The chief minister added rescuers were advised to use robots inside the tunnel for the mission considering their safety. Reddy added it may take another two-three days for the operation to reach a certain stage and that the rescue personnel would be able to spell out the further course of action then, PTI reported.
