‘India’s Got Latent’ row: Who is Abhinav Chandrachud, the lawyer representing Ranveer Allahbadia aka ‘BeerBiceps’?

Despite multiple summons as part of an investigation into his controversial remarks on a YouTube show, host Ranveer Allahbadia aka ‘BeerBiceps’ is yet to appear before the police. The Mumbai Police have now asked him to appear before them on Saturday.

On Friday, teams of Mumbai and Assam police went to his residence in Mumbai but found the flat locked. Earlier, he was asked to report at the Khar police station on Thursday and then on Friday. But he did not turn up. Allahbadia had requested that his statement be recorded at his residence, but it was turned down by the police.

Allahbadia’s controversial comments, including those on ‘parents having sex’, on comedian Samay Raina's now-deleted YouTube show 'India's Got Latent' which also had social media influencer Apoorva Mukhija, sparked a major outrage in the country.

Who is Abhinav Chandrachud, Ranveer Allahbadia’s lawyer?

Abhinav Chandrachud, who is the son of former Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud, is a lawyer practising at the Bombay High Court.

According to his LinkedIn profile, he completed his Doctor of the Science of Law (JSD) and Master of the Science of Law (JSM) at Stanford Law School, where he was a Franklin Family Scholar.

Chandrachud also pursued an LLM at Harvard Law School as a Dana Scholar and graduated from the Government Law College in Mumbai, in 2008.

He also worked as an associate attorney at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, and has authored books such as Republic of Rhetoric: Free Speech and the Constitution of India (2017) and Supreme Whispers: Conversations with Judges of the Supreme Court of India 1980-1989 (2018).
