Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's eldest daughter Upinder Singh lighted his pyre at the Nigambodh Ghat crematorium in Delhi on Saturday at around 1 pm.
President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid wreaths on Singh's mortal remains. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh were also present.
Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Abed Elrazeg Abu Jazer, the Charge d'affaires of the Palestine Embassy in New Delhi, also laid wreath.
The procession carrying the late PM's mortal remains reached the crematorium at around 11.30 am. The mortal remains kept at Singh's residence on 3, Motilal Nehru Road were taken to the AICC headquarters before 9 am on Saturday. Singh's wife Gursharan Kaur and one of their daughters also laid a wreath on his body. Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi paid tribute to the former PM.
The final journey of the late PM began from the Congress headquarters at 10 am after Congress leaders paid last respects.
Supporters chanted "Manmohan Singh amar rahe" and “As long as the sun and moon remain, your name will remain” as they accompanied the flower-bedecked vehicle carrying his mortal remains.
The Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, also accompanied the procession alongside Singh's relatives.
Singh died on December 26 night at AIIMS Delhi due to age-related issues. He was 92.
The Union Home Ministry announced a seven-day national mourning during which the national flag will be flown at half-mast across the nation.
