The Karnataka government will construct 100 houses for the victims of the devastating landslides in Wayanad, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Saturday.
The chief minister made the announcement in a social media post in which he asserted that Karnataka stands in solidarity with Kerala.
"I have assured CM Shri @pinarayivijayan of our support and announced that Karnataka will construct 100 houses for the victims. Together, we will rebuild and restore hope," he said.
Congress leader and former Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi shared Siddaramaiah’s post and said it’s a significant step towards rehabilitation efforts.

“I am deeply grateful to the people and the government of Karnataka for their generous support during these difficult times in Wayanad. Your commitment to building 100 houses for the victims of the tragic landslide is a significant step towards rehabilitation efforts,” Gandhi said.
Gandhi had on Friday announced that the Congress party would construct more than 100 houses for the landslides victims in Wayanad.
"Kerala has never witnessed a tragedy in one area as devastating as the one in Wayanad this time. I will raise this issue with both the union and state governments, as this tragedy demands a unique and urgent response,” Gandhi said after visiting the relief camps and hospitals.
More than 300 people lost their lives while scores of others are still missing as a major landslide left a trail of destruction in in Mundakkai, Chooralmala, Attamala and Noolpuzha villages of the hilly district in the wee hours of Tuesday.
Hundreds of houses were completely damaged in the disaster—one of the worst in Kerala’s recent history.
