Senior Intelligence Bureau officials are investigating the security breach at the new Parliament building where two men jumped from the public gallery into the Lok Sabha chamber and opened gas canisters on Wednesday afternoon.
The two intruders, identified as Sagar Sharma and D Manoranjan, are being questioned by IB officials. Video footage of the Lok Sabha TV showed a man leaping from one desk to another after jumping from Gallery No. 4. Both men were restrained by MPs and the ward and watch personnel. Two other people, a woman identified as Neelam, 42, and a man named Amol Shinde, 25, were detained outside the Parliament in front of the Transport Bhawan. They also opened canisters of foul-smelling yellow gas outside the Parliament premises, according to videos that were circulated.
"We are going through their background. Sharma is a native of Mysuru and pursuing engineering from a university in Bengaluru while the other person is also from Mysuru," ANI quoted an official as saying.
IB officials accompanied by local police reached the homes of the nabbed individuals for a detailed probe, according to the official.
"Their phones have been procured and they have been questioned over their links with any organization. The written material recovered from them have been seized," the offical told the news agency.
The security personnel found an Aadhaar card with a Lucknow address on one of the two intruders, The Hindustan Times quoted BSP MP Ram Shiromani Verma as saying.
BSP MP Danish Ali told PTI that one of the visitor's passes was signed by Mysuru BJP MP Pratap Simha.
