Tension grips Haryana’s Nuh after stones pelted at women; FIR registered, markets shut in protest

Eight women were injured in the incident

Tension prevailed in Nuh district of Haryana after a few women, who were on their way to perform puja at a well, were injured in a stone pelting incident.

Traders, mostly Hindus, refused to open shops and commercial establishments after it came to light that the stones were pelted from the direction of a madrasa. The traders demanded swift police action against those responsible for the crime.

Nuh SP Narender Singh Bijarniya said an FIR was registered following a complaint filed by eight women. "From the madarsa, footage had come where we could see three boys standing. On that basis, three boys have been identified. All three of them have been rounded up, and now they will be presented in court," news agency ANI quoted him as saying.

He said all three people who have been rounded up are minors and the police are questioning them. "All three children are minors. We will investigate all the allegations made by the women. The situation is in control, and leaders from both communities were called in the morning," the SP added.

DSP Nuh Virendra Singh said the investigation is underway and action will be taken against those involved. "The people here have protested, demanding an investigation into the incident, and we have already initiated that. People have agreed to it," he said and urged people to maintain peace.

In the wake of the incident, there was heavy police deployment in the communally charged town, which witnessed widespread violence in July this year in which six people, including two Home Guards, were killed.
