After the death of the prime accused in the Bogtui killing case, protests erupt at the Rampurhat CBI camp in Birbhum district on Tuesday. Trinamool Congress has raised questions against the CBI investigation and demanded an inquiry into the incident.

Lalan Shiekh, who was arrested earlier this month from a hideout along the Bengal-Jharkhand border, died by hanging himself in the office washroom in the Rampurhat area of Birbhum on Monday.

A day after the accused died, his family members along with several villagers staged a protest outside the CBI office alleging 'torture' in the custody. Placards of 'Go Back CBI' was raised by many outside the temporary office set-up. His family members claimed that Sheikh was "severely beaten up" in CBI custody, and sought a probe into the matter.

Police personnel were deployed in the area to maintain peace.

As many as 10 people were killed in the arson and violence that followed the murder of local TMC leader Bhadu Sheikh on March 21. The CBI is probing the case on the orders of the Calcutta High Court.

Meanwhile, TMC leader Madan Mitra demanded an inquiry into the incident. "A serious enquiry should be conducted into the death of Lalan Shiekh. If people have any problem with an investigation, they demand a CBI enquiry. But, if the prime accused is found hanging in CBI custody, how will the people have faith in the agency?" Mitra, Kamarhati MLA was quoted by ANI.

Mitra also told ANI that "Everything is very mysterious. The BJP leaders including opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari and Dilip Ghosh had mentioned that something will happen in Bengal in December and Suvendu Adhikari had categorically mentioned the date as December 12."
