The Congress on Tuesday announced the list of its star campaigners for the Gujarat Assembly elections scheduled to be held in two phases on December 1 and 5. The list of 40 senior leaders included party president Mallikarjun Kharge, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, party MP Rahul Gandhi, general secretary Priyana Gandhi Vadra and Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, senior party leaders Sachin Pilot, Jignesh Mevani and Kanhaiya Kumar have also been named as the star campaigners.
Other big names in the list included former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Kamal Nath, Rajya Sabha MP Digvijay Singh, former Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda and former Maharashtra CM Ashok Chavan.
Senior leaders including Ramesh Chennithala, Tariq Anwar, B.K. Hariprasad, Mohan Prakash, Shaktisinh Gohil, Raghu Sharma, Congress MP Jagdish Thakor, Sukhram Rathva and Shivajirao Moghe will also campaign for the party.
Other names in the list included: Bharatsinh M. Solanki, Arjun Modhwadia, Siddharth Patel, Amit Chavda, Naranbhai Rathwa, Pawan Khera, Imran Pratapgarhi, Indravijaysinh Gohil, Kantilal Bhuria, Naseem Khan, Rajesh Lilothia, Paresh Dhanani, Virender Singh Rathore, Usha Naidu, Ramkishan Ojha, B.M. Sandeep, Anant Patel, and Amrinder Singh Raja Warring.
Elections for the 182-member Gujarat Assembly will be held in two phases on December 1 and 5 and the counting of votes will be taken up on December 8.
The Congress is seeking to oust the BJP from power in the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi where the saffron party has been in government for more than two decades.
