According to the doctors, who treated her at AIIMS, Delhi, she was brought to the hospital with severe injuries and was unconscious. She was 40 days pregnant when she met with the accident.

"She opens her eyes but does not follow any commands," Professor Deepak Gupta of the neurosurgery department, AIIMS told Times of India.

It was on March 31, the road accident took place. The woman was riding pillion on a two-wheeler and was not wearing a helmet. Her husband who is a driver by profession was riding the bike. He was also injured in the accident but since she was not wearing a helmet, she suffered a severe head injury.

According to media reports, her husband had left his job to look after his pregnant wife.

The baby was born by normal delivery last week. Since the baby cannot be fed by the mother, she is fed from a bottle.

It was her husband's decision to keep the baby.  "Instead of approaching the court for termination of pregnancy, her husband opted to keep the baby," the doctor told Times of India.

The delivery was handled by a team of gynaecologists at AIIMS.

When the woman was brought to the trauma centre of the hospital after the accident she was unconscious and was put on a ventilator. She was put on ventilator support after the surgery that took place the next day. She was removed from ventilator support after a series of surgeries later on.
