A woman IAS officer in Bihar came up with an outrageous reply when a teenage student demanded sanitary pads for free.
During an interaction with Bihar Women Development Corporation Harjot Kaur as part of the ‘Sashakt Beti, Samriddh Bihar' (Empowered Daughters, Prosperous Bihar) event in Patna, a participant sought to know why the government, which offers many freebies, can't provide sanitary pads for free.
While the crowd was impressed with the question and even clapped in approval, IAS officer Harjot Kaur wasn't too pleased.
Is there an end to such demands, Kaur asked. "You are now asking for sanitary pads, tomorrow you will ask why can't jeans be given for free. Next, you will ask for shiny shoes. And when the time for family planning comes, you will also want condoms for free," the IAS officer said.
Why would you want the government to give you things for free, asked Kaur.
Kaur said while there are so many schemes by the government for people, the thought that government should things to people for free is wrong.
When the girl pointed out that the politicians come asking for votes, the IAS officer said, "don't give vote, become like Pakistan."
The girl responded by saying "I am an Indian."
