The controversial twin towers in Noida, measuring over 100-metre tall came tumbling down in seconds as it was demolished following a Supreme Court order on Sunday.

The towers Apex (32 storeys) and Ceyane (29 storeys) got demolished in approximately 10 seconds. Precautionary measures were taken to ensure there was no damage caused to nearby buildings. The closest buildings were just nine metres away. The buildings were pulled down using 'waterfall implosion' technique. 3,700 kilos of explosives were used for the blast.

The Supreme Court ordered the demolition of Supertech Twin Towers in August last year after the Court found its construction within the Emerald Court society premises in violation of norms.

Earlier, Edifice partner Utkarsh Mehta told publications that they were "150 per cent" confident that the towers will come down safely and in the direction envisaged by them, assuring residents of no damage to their homes except for chances of "cosmetic cracks" on outer paint and plasters of some structures.

Extensive safety precautions were taken to ensure the safe demolition of the towers. The GAIL pipelines in the area were covered with plates and about 5,000 residents were evacuated. As many as 3,000 vehicles and close to 200 pets were also removed from the premises. Noida-Greater Noida Expressway was closed from 2.15pm to 2.45pm, and the air space above the blast area was also briefly unavailable for flights during demolition.
