Wading into the ongoing controversy over the movie The Kashmir Files, which chronicles the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits, senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said Pakistan and militancy were responsible for what happened in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said militancy has affected all, including Hindus, Kashmiri Pandits, Kashmiri Muslims, and Dogras.
Azad, a member of the dissenting G-23 of the Congress, said political parties divide people on the basis of religion, caste and other things. " I am not forgiving any party, including mine (the Congress). Civil society should stay together. Justice must be given to everyone, irrespective of their caste, or religion."
He claimed that "Mahatma Gandhi was the biggest Hindu and secularist".
Written and directed by Vivek Agnihotri and produced by Zee Studios, The Kashmir Files depicts the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus from Kashmir following systematic killings of people from the community by Pakistan-backed terrorists.
The film, which was released on March 11, has sparked a debate among political parties, with the Congress calling it a "one-sided movie". Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh had claimed that the film incites hates.
The BJP has openly come out in support of the film, with several states ruled by the party exempting it from entertainment tax. Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself has praised the movie, saying it has rattled the ecosystem which wanted to bury the truth.
