A day after the shocking resignation of Swami Prasad Maurya from Uttar Pradesh cabinet, another minister, Dara Singh Chauhan, resigned from the cabinet on Wednesday.

Chauhan, an OBC leader like Maurya, was the minister of forest and environment in the Yogi Adityanath cabinet.

In his resignation letter, Chauhan said he is offended by the oppressive attitude of UP government towards backward, deprived sections, Dalits, farmers and unemployed youth.

" The BJP formed govt with the support of Dalits, backward communities, but didn't serve them well, which is why I resigned. Next step would be to hold discussions with my society people and then take a call for future course of action," news agency ANI quoted him as saying after the resignation.

On Tuesday, BJP's Tindwari MLA Brajesh Prajapati, Tilhar MLA Roshan Lal Varma and Bilhaur MLA Bhagwati Sagar also had announced that they too are leaving the party after Maurya resigned from the post. Maurya is expected to join the Samajwadi Party.

The spate of resignations come even as the state is set to go to assembly polls next month.
