In an appalling comment, Haryana BJP MP Arvind Sharma threatened that he would “gouge out the eyes and cut off the arms” of those who opposed his party colleague and former minister Manish Grover.
According to an NDTV report, Sharma’s remarks made at a public event were greeted with cheers and applause by the audience.
Grover, along with a few other BJP leaders, were held hostage for several hours inside a temple at Kiloli village in Rohtak by the protesting farmers on Friday. Grover had reached the Shiva temple in the morning to watch the live telecast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Kedarnath visit.
Farmers protesting against the three agri laws have been opposing the public programmes of the BJP and Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) in Haryana. However, the immediate provocation for Friday’s incident is believed to be the recent comments made by Grover who had called the agitating farmers “jobless alcoholic”.
Sharma, who represents Rohtak in Parliament, had also faced the farmers’ ire last week during his visit to Julana town in Jind district. The farmers showed black flags and tried to block his way by lying on the road.
