Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the 7th International Yoga Day programme at 6.30 AM on Monday. The theme of this year’s event is ‘Yoga For Wellness’, Modi said in a tweet on Sunday evening.
“Tomorrow, 21st June, we will mark the 7th Yoga Day. The theme this year is ‘Yoga For Wellness’, which focusses on practising Yoga for physical and mental well-being. At around 6:30 AM tomorrow, will be addressing the Yoga Day programme,” the prime minister tweeted.
In view of the COVID-19 restrictions, the lead event of the day will be a televised programme with Modi's address being the highlight. Scheduled to start at 6.30 am on all Doordarshan channels on Monday, the event will also include an address by Minister of State for Ayush Kiren Rijiju and a live yoga demonstration by the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, the Ayush Ministry said.
“On the occasion of International Day of Yoga, let us resolve to brighten our lives physically, mentally and spiritually by practising Yoga every day,” Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu said in a statement.
“The pandemic made the world realise the importance of overall well-being and Yoga is one simple yet powerful practice that helps us build resilience and improves our health holistically. It gives me immense happiness that Yoga, India's gift to humanity, is transforming millions of lives around the globe,” he said.
Lok Sabha people Om Birla also greeted people on the eve of the Yoga Day, saying yoga is a gift of India’s rich cultural and civilisational heritage.
"Yoga is a gift of our rich cultural and civilisational heritage. It is not only a physical activity but it also awakens our cosmic consciousness and connects us to divine power. Yoga bridges humanity with nature and, thus, paves way for a balanced environment and a peaceful world," said Birla in a statement,” he said.
Last year's theme was ''Yoga at Home and Yoga with Family'' due to the coronavirus concerns.
