RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav's sons Tejashwi Yadav and Tej Pratap Yadav face a fierce battle in the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar. While Tejashwi Yadav is contesting from Raghopur seat, which he represented in the assembly last time, his elder brother Tej Pratap is contesting from Hasanpur assembly constituency.
In 2015, Tej Pratap had won the Bihar elections from Mahua assembly constituency in Vaishali district. However, this time he has changed his seat, amid widespread speculations that his ex-wife Aishwarya Rai might be fielded against him in Mahua.
Tej Pratap will face JD(U) nominee and sitting MLA Raj Kumar Ray in Hasanpur, while BJP has fielded Satish Kumar against RJD's chief ministerial candidate in Raghopur. Though Kumar lost to Tejashwi in 2015, he had emerged as a giant killer after defeating former chief minister Rabri Devi from the same seat in the 2010 polls.
To add to his woes, Tejashwi is up against a different JD(U)-BJP alliance as opposed to the previous assembly election. He has to focus on leading the statewide campaign as well as securing enough votes for himself in his constituency.
On the contrary, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi can focus solely on the campaigns. Both are members of the Legislative Council and hence, there is no necessity to contest in the assembly polls. RJD leader and Lalu Prasad Yadav's wife Rabri Devi is also a member of the Legislative Council and hence, won't contest in the assembly elections.
