In a move likely to give the infrastructure sector a major boost when the COVID-19 situation normalizes, the Gujarat government on Tuesday approved the construction of 70 plus floor structures in five major cities in the state.

A government spokesperson said that Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani gave a go ahead for construction of 70 plus floors structures in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot and Gandhinagar.

A note from the state government said that the infrastructure and the skyscrapers will be alike that of the UAE, Singapore and other countries.

It is believed that the vertical structures will accommodate more population and generate employment.

Necessary changes will be made in the construction rules of 2017 and with the result 70 plus floor structures will be constructed. Till now permission was being given for only 22 to 23 floors.

Several related guidelines have been framed and first the permission will have to be taken from a special technical committee. The committee will have several subject experts.

Rules have been also laid down regarding who would be involved in the construction of these buildings and what specifications the buildings would have.
