From a migrant worker to SSLC achiever, Mahesh shows the way

Mahesh B., an SSLC student, was in for a surprise on Tuesday when Education Minister S. Suresh Kumar landed at his doorstep to congratulate him on his achievement. 

The 17-year-old, who belongs to a migrant worker family from Yadgir, has scored 616 out of 625 marks in the board exams. 

A student of the government-run Karnataka Public School in Jeevan Bimanagar in Bengaluru, Mahesh also works as a daily wager to support his education. He lives with his mother Malavva, a domestic help, and two brothers.  

"The family of Mahesh resides in a small hutment and he told me he worked as a construction worker to fund his school education. Mahesh has expressed his desire to pursue science stream in the pre-university (PU) course. My department will extend all support to help him pursue college education," said Suresh Kumar in his Facebook post.

The SSLC results declared by the Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB) on August  10 recorded an overall pass percentage of 71.80, against last year's 73.70. 

A total of 5,82,316 students have cleared the exam which was held in June amid the COVID-19 pandemic. In the district-wise rank list, Chikballapur stood first (Grade A) and Yadgir was in the last place (Grade C).
