Janta curfew exercise

As the number of coronavirus cases surges in India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to all citizens to participate in the voluntary Janta curfew on Sunday. Between 7am and 9pm public transport will be unavailable in several cities as businesses and citizens alike are advised to undergo self-quarantine and stay indoors, in a bid to contain the spread of the virus.

Mock drill

Hospital workers nationwide will conduct a mock drill to test their emergency preparedness for a coronavirus outbreak. Conducted by the health ministry, it will be a chance for healthcare workers to prepare their systems and protocols for a surge in the number of reported cases. One of the biggest challenges in dealing with a coronavirus outbreak is for hospitals to handle the surge in the number of patients needing rooms, isolation wards and respirators.

Stranded Indians to return from Italy

Around 263 Indians who were stranded in Rome, Italy, one of the countries hardest-hit by the coronavirus pandemic, will return to India on Sunday, the Joint Secretary of the Health Ministry announced on Saturday. Most of the Indians are students and will be quarantined on arrival in India.

Formula One to hold virtual race

While numerous international sporting events have been cancelled due to the coronavirus, Formula One will attempt a virtual Grand Prix on Sunday to replace its cancelled Grand Prix races. Cancelled races will be replaced by virtual ones as part of an initiative that will run until May as part of the F1 Esports Virtual Grand Prix.

Sonu Nigam to hold live performance online

Singer Sonu Nigam, who was stuck in Dubai after his flight to India was cancelled, will hold a free online concert on Instagram on Sunday for his fans. Nigam made the announcement on Instagram in suport of the Janta curfew. 

Asaduddin Owasi to make live address online

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi is expected to make a live address today on the occasion of Shab-e-Meraj, also known as Isra night. Owaisi tweeted that he would be holding the address online to prevent large gatherings and will go live at 8.30pm.
