A 25-year-old man from Mysuru was shot dead by an unknown assailant at a restaurant in California on Thursday. According to reports, Abhishek Sudesh Bhat was pursuing his master's degree in California State University and was temporarily looking after a motel in San Bernardino.
The incident occurred between 11.30 am and 12.30 pm.
As the legal procedure including the post mortem may take some time, the family has decided to perform the last rites in California itself.
A resident of Kuvempunagar in Mysuru, Abhishek had moved to California around two years ago.
The family has approached the authorities in California as well as the Indian Embassy there besides the local authorities in Bengaluru to expedite the legal procedure.
The Star of Mysore newspaper quoted a family member as saying, “We have contacted US Consulate and the Indian High Commission for more details and as of now there is no clear information about the incident and why Abhishek was shot dead. Modalities are being worked out for the parents and Abhishek’s younger brother to travel to San Bernardino.”
Asked about any headway in the case, Srivastava, the victim's cousin, told news agency PTI that it would not be proper to disclose anything about the progress made in the case.
