West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence in New Delhi on Wednesday. The meeting assumes significance as it comes at a time when former Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kimar is facing arrest in the Saradha chit fund scam and several Trinamool Congress leaders are in the probe agency's scanner.

The Prime Minister's Office tweeted pictures of the two leaders at the official residence of Modi. Mamata is seen presenting a bouquet to the prime minister.

The meeting has already created ripples in the political circles, as Mamata, a staunch critic of Modi and the BJP government, had earlier skipped the PM's swearing-in in May and the Niti Aayog meet in June.

Mamata's meeting with Modi comes a day after the CBI formed a special team to trace Rajeev Kumar who didn't appear before it for questioning on Tuesday. The agency is waiting for a non-bailable arrest warrant from the Alipore sessions court and has already made a roadmap on how to arrest Kumar, an officer of the rank of additional director-general.

His arrest could lead the CBI to many top bureaucrats of West Bengal, along with several ministers including the chief minister herself.

On Tuesday, before leaving for Delhi, Mamata had described her scheduled meeting with Modi as a "courtesy" one and said she would highlight various issues like funds that are due to the state during her talk with the PM.

Talking to reporters at Kolkata airport, Mamata had said she would also raise matters like changing name of West Bengal as well merger of public sector banks during the meeting.
