In the first official confirmation, Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar was suffering from pancreatic cancer and chooses to be with his family, PTI reported. "He has got pancreatic cancer, there is no hiding this fact," Rane told reporters at Aldona in North Goa after inaugurating a state-run medical facility. According to PTI, Rane alleged that the Congress, who has repeatedly sought publicisation of chief minister's health updates, was after Parrikar's life. "There is something called privacy that we need to maintain," he said.

Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in September. Parrikar, who has been undergoing treatment for what was then claimed to be a pancreatic ailment, was examined by a team of doctors at the premier hospital.

"He is being examined by a team of doctors and will undergo a few tests," the source said. Parrikar, 62, was flown to the national capital owing to his declining health. He had returned from the US in the first week of September, days after which he was admitted to a hospital at Candolim in north Goa. Earlier this year, he had undergone a three-month-long treatment in the US.
