At least six people were killed and 14 injured in a blast at a steel plant at Bhilai in Chhattisgarh's Durg district on Tuesday. The Bhilai plant is operated by the state-run Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL).
The blast took place in a pipeline near the coke oven section of the plant in Bhilai, located around 30km from the state capital Raipur, a local police official told PTI.
Police personnel and a rescue team rushed to the steel plant, the official said, adding that the injured were taken to a local hospital.
Further details are awaited.
According to the SAIL website, the Bhilai Steel Plant is India's sole producer and supplier of world-class rails for the Indian Railways, including 260m-long rails and a major producer of a large variety of wide and heavy steel plates and structural steel.
With an annual production capacity of 3.153MT of saleable steel, the plant also specialises in other products such as wire rods and merchant products.
