Terming it a sad day for Karntaka and sadder day for Indian democracy, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday demanded a judicial review of Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala's decision to invite the BJP to form a government in the state.

"His decision is a green signal for horse trading and a naked capitulation of democratic values. There must be a judicial review of Karnataka guv’s decision to invite BJP to form govt," tweeted Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan refering to Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala's decision to invite BJP leader B.S. Yeddyurappa to form a government in the state. Vala has also given the Yeddyurappa-led BJP government 15 days to prove its majority in the Karnataka assembly.

Yeddyurappa was sworn in as the new chief minister of Karnataka by Governor Vajubhai Vala on Thursday, following a high-voltage drama after the Supreme Court refused to issue a stay order on a petition filed by the Congress-JD(S) combine. "Today is a sad day for Karnataka and a sadder day for Indian democracy.  Governors who allow themselves to be playthings of the Centre are undermining positions they hold," Pinarayi Vijayan said in his Twitter post.

Following the declaration of the Karnataka assembly election results on May 15 that failed to give a clear mandate to any one party, Governor Vajubhai Vala on Wednesday invited BJP legislature party leader B.S. Yeddyurappa to form the government in Karnataka. Governor Vajubhai Vala's decision to call the BJP, which has 105 MLAs, including one Independent MLA, and is seven short of the halfway mark of 112, proved controversial as the Congress-JD(S) post-poll alliance claimed that they have about 116-117 seats and is clearly ahead of the halfway mark.
