High drama is being unfolded on the counting day of Karnataka Assembly elections with both Congress and the BJP exploring all the options available to form the government.

Earlier, giving the first twist, Congress, which leads in over 70 seats as per the latest reports, offered an unconditional support to the JD(S) to form a coalition government in the state to keep away the BJP from power.

However, minutes after Congress reached out to JD(S), the BJP decided to form a counter strategy with party chief Amit Shah meeting senior party leaders at his residence. Reports said the BJP might woo the disgruntled MLAs in the Congress camp to its side.

Despite being the single largest party with lead over 100 seats, BJP will not be able to capture power in the southern state if the Congress-JD(S) deal works out. JD(S) is leading in over 35 seats.

Congress claimed that the JD(S) has accepted the Congress offer and that the two parties will meet Governor Vajubhai Vala in the evening.
