It is party president Amit Shah who infuses a 'fearless' attitude in the minds of his prabhari (state in-charges) of the party who look after the BJP's growth in different states and the recent election in Tripura was no different.

This was revealed by the BJP's Tripura in-charge, Sunil Deodhar, in an exclusive interview in the upcoming print issue of THE WEEK that will hit the stands on Friday (March 9).

Deodhar described how Shah encouraged him to be brave and take on the powerful CPI(M) cadres in the state. Deodhar says the BJP was able to secure a majority in Tripura because it’s in power at the Centre.

“Amitbhai told me that as long as the BJP government is in power in India, no BJP national leader would have to be afraid of their security. He also said there is no political party in India that could touch the state in-charge of the BJP in any state,” Deodhar says in the interview.

According to Deodhar, the same confident attitude has been infused in BJP leaders in the other states as well. And they are working fearlessly in different states. In the interview, Deodhar details how he changed the BJP in Tripura by reaching out to people in the state.

Deodhar declared that the BJP would return to power in 2019 and would 'virtually take over' the whole of India.

“Not only will we come back to power in 2019, we will get a majority on our own like last time. We have given good governance to India. Moreover, we took drastic steps to change India. We did not care whether they are popular or not,” said the BJP’s newest sensation.

Deodhar also says he is hearing many proposals from different sections in the party, like giving him responsibilities in Uttar Pradesh next year or for 'mission Bengal'. But he said he would be ready to do any duty given by the party president.

Opening up for the first time, Deodhar admits that he has a 'special interest' in the next West Bengal election.

“But I cannot go there unless asked by Amitbhai,” he says in the interview.

Meanwhile, the Tripura BJP is making all arrangements for a grand swearing-in ceremony for the first BJP government in Agartala. Prime Minister Narendra Modi would fly to Agartala on Friday for the ceremony for which the Assam Rifles Ground has been chosen as the venue.

“The prime minister himself told me that he would come and see our swearing-in ceremony,” Biplab Deb, BJP Tripura president and chief minister designate, said to THE WEEK.

Deb also said after taking charge, he would offer a residence for former chief minister Manik Sarkar. Sarkar left the CM bungalow on Wednesday and moved to the party headquarters with his wife.

“We will also set up a MLAs' housing facility, which would accommodate all MLAs,” said Deb.
