My son is no Nirav Modi. Why can't CBI find him, asks Najeeb' mom

Nafees was supported by hundreds of JNU students union members and others who landed at the agency headquarters and staged a dharna

“My son is no Nirav Modi, he has not fled the country. Why can’t the CBI find him?” said Fatima Nafees, mother of missing JNU student Najeeb Ahmed, outside CBI headquarters on Monday, a day ahead of the hearing in the Delhi High Court of the case involving her missing son.

After Nafees petitioned the High Court to direct the police to find her son, the case was transferred from Delhi Police to the CBI. In December last, the court directed the CBI to fast track the forensic analysis of the electronic evidence so that the probe could progress.

It was a day of high drama at the CBI headquarters on Monday, where investigators were busy with bank fraud case investigations, and did not appear to be distracted by the large number of people gathered outside their doorstep, stopping officials from exiting before some of them were forcibly removed.

Security forces sealed the periphery of the CBI headquarters as protestors climbed the barricades and shouted slogans for hours demanding their voice be heard. “The CBI allows people like Nirav Modi to flee, but it can’t find my son who has disappeared under mysterious circumstances,” said the lamenting mother.

Nafees was supported by hundreds of JNU students union members and others who landed at the agency headquarters and staged a dharna, only to be stopped by the heavy police presence in anti-riot gears.

The atmosphere was charged as allegations flew thick and high against the ABVP by the protesting students who demanded the CBI to unearth the conspiracy and find out who is responsible for Najeeb’s sudden disappearance and “planting fake news about him joining the ISIS.”

“We demand that the CBI investigate the case properly. Why is it silent and why is the probe going so slow? Let them prove that Najeeb joined the ISIS or indulged in any unlawful activities ,” Nafees demanded.

Najeeb’s cousin sister Sadaf said the entire conspiracy to link her brother with the ISIS has been deliberately hatched by the security agencies, who are trying to malign her brother for vested interests.

Najeeb has disappeared in October 2016 after he allegedly had an altercation with some students of the ABVP. However, the ABVP denied any involvement in his disappearance.
